On April 10, 2016, town leaders and officials held a Community Visioning Day event with the town's citizenry to encourage them to get involved in helping to develop a Comprehensive Plan for the town. Under the direction of Mayor Swearingen and a representative from the NC School of Government, groups were formed to tackle key issues for the town on parking, environment, transportation, economic development, public safety, etc. These groups met for a period of time to provide input. A presentation of the town's financial status was also given during the event.
In February 2017, a survey was placed on the Town's website to receive public input on the key issues. The survey was also emailed to anyone signed up under the website's Notify Me program. Below, is a link to the survey results and its highlights, which were shared at the May 2017 council meeting.
