IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM THE KURE BEACH FIRE CHIEF

MOTSU (Sunny Point) will continue their controlled burn today in Kure Beach.  The burning is expected to begin around 9AM and end around 3PM today.  They expect to burn around 158 acres today (see map below).  Although the winds are expected to blow East throughout the day, expect a moderate amount of smoke in the area all day and lingering into tomorrow.  The prescribed burning will take place in two separate zones, with the potential for a third zone if time and conditions allow.  The first zone will be between H Ave and K Ave where the disc golf course is located.  The disc golf course will be closed for the day.  The second zone is in the Carolina Beach district on the west side of Dow Road.  The third potential zone will also be on the west side of Dow Road across from where the burning took place yesterday.
