IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE EMERGENCY MANAGER

Wednesday, January 22, 2025 - 8:39am

Kure Beach Residents,

The roadways are very treacherous today.  This morning emergency personnel have been out and there is ice underneath the layer of snow on roadways.  Elevated stairwells and sidewalks are very slippery as well.  Please only be on roadways for REQUIRED needs, as the majority of businesses and doctor’s offices will most likely be closed today.

Be especially aware of  BLACK ICE throughout the next few days as temperatures will remain low.

Elevated surfaces (including beach accesses and outside home stairways) represent a high risk potential with snow and/or ice and additional caution is recommended.

Plants and animals should be taken inside and for any non-insolated water pipes (outside shower, connected outside hoses, poorly isolated external walls) the piping should be drained or insulated to prevent bursting.

Below is the latest National Weather Service update graphic and the full briefing can be found at:

Town Staff has completed Town preparations for this event today.

TRASH PICK UP:

Due to the roadways – trash pickup is delayed until Thursday midday at the earliest.

TOWN HALL HOURS OF OPERATION:

Town Hall will reopen on Thursday at 12:00pm if conditions allow.  Council will review conditions Thursday morning.  If icy conditions exist on entryways to Town Hall – to protect citizens and staff council office hours will be adjusted accordingly.

Respectfully –
David W. Heglar, PE
