IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE EMERGENCY MANAGER
Kure Beach Residents,
Emergency Services personnel have been out early this morning. As forecast, after the sun went down yesterday, temperatures dropped and roadways re-froze from the traffic yesterday. Roadways today are very icy and dangerous. Unlike yesterday, where roadways has a surface layer of snow that assisted in traction – this morning most roads are sheets of ice. Unless travel is critical, you should avoid driving today.
Temperatures are only forecast to get to 36 F as a high today, and cloudy conditions are forecast all day. Therefore the roads are unlikely to improve before Friday midday.
Use caution walking on elevated decks, outside stairs, sidewalks and the roadways, as the possibility of a fall is very high.
Town personnel are staffed to support emergency needs, but the best case is to protect ourselves and stay safe.
Be especially aware of BLACK ICE throughout the next few days as temperatures will remain low.
Plants and animals should be taken inside and for any non-insolated water pipes (outside shower, connected outside hoses, poorly isolated external walls) the piping should be drained or insulated to prevent bursting.

TRASH PICK UP:
Due to the roadways – trash pickup is delayed until Friday midday at the earliest based on the road conditions.
TOWN HALL HOURS OF OPERATION:
Town Hall will reopen on FRIDAY at 12:00 if conditions allow. Council will review conditions Thursday afternoon. If icy conditions exist on entryways to Town Hall, to protect citizens and staff council office hours will be adjusted accordingly.
Respectfully –
David W. Heglar, PE
