IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM THE EMERGENCY MANAGER

Monday, August 12, 2024 - 3:23pm

In the last few hours , the Town has experienced an excessive amount of rainfall exceeding last Friday. Flash flood warnings for Kure Beach were communicated via the text systems by the National Weather Service since midday today.

All stormwater systems are currently open, however with the ground saturation from the last 5 days has the system is at capacity. Excessive flooding has occurred throughout the Town, with multiple vehicle rescues occurring in town roadways due to this event. REMINDER, that no one should drive through ponding water, and for those that are driving, slow speeds will prevent pushing water over other vehicles or into homes that may have water up to their entryways until the rain slows and the systems can catch up.

Public works has been out ensuring drains are open, however until the rain slows, the system cannot reduce the flooding.

As soon as the rainfall slows down or stops, the road ponding will clear over the next few hours. Please be cautious on all ponded roads. There are many flooded roadways in Town. The current weather shows rain slowing in the short term, however there may be more heavy rain in the early evening hours.

If you have flood damage to your home, please send an email with details to our Building Inspector, Bethany White at b.white@townofkurebeach.org for tracking and information purposes.

Respectfully,

David Heglar, Emergency Manager
