MOTSU CONTROLLED BURN UPDATE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF
Friday, April 25, 2025 - 9:23am
The Kure Beach Fire Department has been in contact with the MOTSU burn team regarding the lingering smoke conditions in the area. Due to this being the first time this area has been burned, there is still a layer of organic fuel matter under the top layer of dirt that continues to smolder, even though you may not see flames. Furthermore, due to the humidity and wind conditions, the smoke has been hanging low and blowing towards the residential area over the last several days.
Over the last two weeks, both the Kure Beach Fire Department and MOTSU burn team have been working the area with rakes, water cans, and brush trucks, and will continue to do so until the next rain, where we can expect to see the most improvement.
